New library offers convenience, services

Montezuma has a new, modern library facility right along Main Street.

The 6,000-square-foot building was a gift in 2005 from the Frank Brownell and his son, Pete Brownell of Brownells Inc. The library honors the memory of Frank's late wife, Nancy, who was an avid reader.

The land was donated by the City of Montezuma.

Money to furnish the interior was raised by various fund raising projects.

Local school children helped to move all of the books from the former library to its present location.

Library services and facilities include:
  • Six computers with public access internet.
You can use a computer on a limited time basis, free of charge. You must sign up for this service.
  • Inter-library loan with more than 600 participating Iowa libraries.
This is a great free service that allows you to "borrow" books from other Iowa libraries. The books are sent to the Montezuma Public Library. You pick them up there and return them there also.
  • Computerized card catalog.
  • Fax machine.
  • Community Room - available free of charge.
  • Story hour:
Friday at 10:30 a.m. for 3-5 year olds during the school year.
