You can live on a beautiful lake!
The Montezuma area has two residential lake areas:
Both offer a variety of recreational opportunities for property owners and their guests.
Lake Ponderosa was built in 1964. There are about 700 homes on the lake, located about three miles west of Montezuma.
Sometimes called, “Iowa’s best-kept secret,” Lake Ponderosa covers more than 400 acres and has approximately 700 homes.
The Lake Ponderosa Association consists of lake property owners. It supports a number of activities each year, including a kids fishing derby, an ice cream social, garage sale days and a tour of homes.
Lake Ponderosa annually hosts a spectacular fireworks extravaganza along the causeway which is held when Montezuma observes the 4th of July.
The lake has a marina.
Fishing and boating opportunities abound on Lake Ponderosa.
Lake Silverado is the newer of the two lakes, having been built in 1996.
It covers about 30 acres and is located just off 480th Street, about three-and-one-half miles northwest of Montezuma.
Fishing is the primary activity on the lake, which has a no-wake rule and a horsepower limit on boat engines.
