Develop your shooting touch

Want to sharpen your shooting eye? You can do it at Big Springs, the area’s newest shooting range, located west of Montezuma and just east of Searsboro at 4945 Highway 146.

The range includes facilities for open shotgun, five-stand sporting clay, and open shotgun.

A trap and skeet field includes skeet buildings, and high and low houses. There remote-controlled trap machines.

Some 17 acres are dedicated to roads and shooting ranges, but there is more ground, and it is dedicated to native prairie grass.

Ammunition is available on the site.

Children ages 12-18 must be accompanied by an adult and children under age 12 are not allowed to shoot at the range.

Brownells, Inc. of Montezuma, the world’s largest supplier of firearm accessories and gunsmithing tools, was instrumental in developing Big Springs.

During January, February and March, Big Springs is open to the pubic Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. In April, public hours change to every Thursday from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m.
