New housing headed for Montezuma!

A housing shortage hampers the potential growth of many rural communities.

Montezuma is doing something about it.

Montezuma Municipal Light and Power purchased 15.22 acres of land on the south edge of town during the summer of 2007. The intention is to create up to 30 lots for new home construction.

The land runs from Third Street east along the Barnes City Road to the old railroad (Bonham Memorial Park) tracks.

The development will include streets, water, electric and sewer. Lots are not expected to exceed a one-half acre each.

“We do need housing, badly,” said Don Fahlenkamp, director of Montezuma Municipal Light & Power. “That’s why we went after the property.”

Fahlenkamp said after the light plan engineer lays out the lots and streets within the development, a decision will be made about how lots are sold.
