U.S. 63 closure: Get ready for a RUSH!
July 1, 2010

U.S. 63 through Montezuma will be detoured for about three weeks starting on Wednesday, July 6.

Businesses along Main Street can expect to see a lot more traffic as a result.

So will residents along Eighth Street.

The detour: Traffic entering Montezuma from the north and south will be re-routed to Eighth Street via Main Street and/or the Barnes City Road, according to city officials.

The detour will be marked in both directions.

The closure: Will be U.S. 63 from Main to Wood Street.

Iowa Dept. of Transportation officials said the closure of U.S. 63 is necessary to replace a drainage structure, complete some curb and gutter work and replace some pavement.

Work on the project began about a month ago.

After U.S. 63 is re-opened in late July, traffic will be restricted to one lane until crews complete the road widening and repaving project.

Joy Hubbard at Hometown Restaurant said her establishment will remain open during the road closure. She said patrons can park in the lot west of the building.
