All of these services are billed once a month and are due on the 26th of each month.
Deposits for utilities are as follows:
Gas – the highest gas bill in the previous 12 months
Water - $75.00
Electricity - $150.00 (electric heat - an additional $150.00)
Recycling - $7.00
These deposits are refunded after bills are on time for one year. Interest is added to electric and gas deposits only.
Recycling
Recycling is required in Montezuma. To set up this service, a $7.00 deposit is required at the city office. There you will receive a print-out telling you which items are recyclable. A curbside bin for your recyclables can be obtained from R & L Sanitation at 641-623-3895.
Trash
Montezuma bags are required for curbside pick-up. They can be purchased at the city offices or at Montezuma Super Valu.

40-pound size - $1.80 each
They are sold singly at the city offices or in sets of 5 at Super Valu.

Animal Control
It is unlawful for pets to run at large within the city limits. “At large” means off of the owner’s property and not under control of a competent person. It is also unlawful to abandon a cat or dog. If animals are found to be running at large within Montezuma’s city limits, they will be impounded with costs to be paid by the owner. Offenders may also be issued a summons to appear in court.
If you wish to contribute to a fund to spay/neuter and inoculate strays so that they might possibly be adopted, the Animal Relief Fund (A.R.F.) has been established. Donations may be sent to Montezuma State Bank, P O Box 128, Montezuma, IA 50171.
